One of the best things about Las Vegas is the vast amount to see. Every visitor is able to create their own experience. But with so much to see and only a few nights to take it all in choosing things to see in Las Vegas can become challenging. I wanted to highlight 6 of the most iconic things to see in Las Vegas.

6. El Cortez

We begin in Downtown Las Vegas on Fremont Street at the El Cortez which opened in 1941. The casino was once owned by infamous mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel. He sold the casino to fund the construction of the first major resort on the Strip, the Flamingo Hotel.

Much of the original Spanish-style architecture remains to this day. In 2009 the casino underwent renovations and in 2011 it was repainted for the first time in 30 years. The casino is located at 600 Fremont St, Las Vegas, NV 89101.

5. Hoover Dam

Commission by President Herbert Hoover, the Hoover Dam is a 20th Century engineering marvel and National Historic Landmark. Construction began in 1930 and is cited as one of reasons Las Vegas became what it is today.

The Hoover Dam is located just outside of Las Vegas to the southeast on the border of Nevada and Arizona. It is the tallest concrete dam in the Western Hemisphere standing at more than 725 feet above the Colorado River. Parking is free surrounding the dam, tours are available.

Established in 1996, the Neon Museum takes you back into time where neon ruled every property in Las Vegas. Visit the Neon Museum and tour a boneyard full of the coolest vintage Las Vegas signage. You’ll see the Moulin Rouge, Stardust, Treasure Island skull, and many more.

Just up the road from Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas, the Neon Museum is a great way to break you away from the fast paced Las Vegas strip. The Neon Museum is located at 770 N. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89101.

The most iconic sign in Las Vegas is across the street from the airport on the southend of Las Vegas Boulevard. About a 15 minute walk from Mandalay Bay the sign welcoming you to the Strip was created in 1959. It remains one of the most popular free things to see in Las Vegas. There is very limited parking available to those heading south on the Strip.

2. The Berlin Wall
